I fell down a small rabbit hole. A rabbit hole in the internet. You know those news tabs that include politics, sports, and other topics found in newspapers? Yeah. I fell down the politics hole. It’s not a bad thing though, it’s good to be aware. Which is why I chose to post THIS- Did Donald Trump violate the First Amendment of the Constitution?? And for those of you who do not know the First Amendment, here it is: “The First Amendment guarantees freedoms concerning religion, expression, assembly, and the right to petition. It forbids Congress from both promoting one religion over others and also restricting an individual’s religious practices. It guarantees freedom of expression by prohibiting Congress from restricting the press or the rights of individuals to speak freely. It also guarantees the right of citizens to assemble, peaceably and to petition their government.” (From https://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/first_amendment.) You are probably wondering how Trump might have violated the First Amendment. Here is what happened: There is always going to be someone who judges you - especially if you’re a president! And if you’re a president on Twitter, you better believe that people will judge you! President Donald trump has blocked multiple critics on Twitter for political speech. You must be thinking, so what? I block people too! It’s not a big deal. Well, he wasn’t just blocking them because they were creeping him out or stalking him. In fact, that wasn’t the case at all! He blocked them simply because they were sharing their own opinions, and how they felt about Trump as president and things he does as president. He blocked those people, as president. And that wasn’t a very smart thing to do. When he did that, he was violating the right of free speech. Anyone can have their opinions- even the First Amendment says so! To have our president violate our very own constitution, how do you feel? And what do you think? By blocking those critics, did Trump violate the first amendment?
